Die symbiotische Beziehung ist einfach. Zooxanthellen sind photosynthetische Algen, die Licht als Energiequelle nutzen.\n\nSie metabolisieren Kohlendioxid, Stickstoff und Phosphor, die Abfallprodukte der Koralle sind.\n\nIm Gegenzug versorgen die Zooxanthellen die Korallen mit ihren photosynthetischen Nebenprodukten, die alle Korallenn\u00e4hrstoffe sind:\n<ul>\n \t<li>Kohlenhydrate<\/li>\n \t<li>Aminos\u00e4uren<\/li>\n \t<li>Fetts\u00e4uren<\/li>\n \t<li>Vitamine<\/li>\n<\/ul>\nPhotosynthetische Korallen ben\u00f6tigen jedoch mehr Energie, als diese Algen liefern k\u00f6nnen. Die Zooxanthellen liefern bis zu 85% des Energiebedarfs der Korallen. Es liegt also an uns, die restlichen 15% zu erg\u00e4nzen.\n\nTats\u00e4chlich m\u00fcssen wir in den meisten F\u00e4llen mehr als 15% des Energiebedarfs der Korallen decken.\nWarum? Weil wir alle umwerfende Farben wollen!\n\nW\u00e4hrend die Zooxanthellen der Koralle lebenswichtige Energie liefern, schattieren sie in hoher Dichte auch die Pigmente der Koralle.\n\nUm lebendigere Farben zu erhalten, m\u00fcssen wir die Dichte der Zooxanthellen-Algen reduzieren. Wir tun dies, indem wir den Nitrat- und Phosphatgehalt im Wasser, also die Algenn\u00e4hrstoffe, reduzieren.\n\nWeniger Zooxanthellen bedeuten jedoch weniger Energie f\u00fcr die Koralle. Das hei\u00dft, wir m\u00fcssen den Energieverlust kompensieren.\n\nBei \u201enicht photosynthetischen\u201c Korallen wie Gorgonien oder Sonnenkorallen, die keine Zooxanthellen haben, m\u00fcssen wir 100% des Ern\u00e4hrungsbedarfs decken.\n\nSie m\u00f6chten Ihren Korallen also genau die Korallenn\u00e4hrstoffe geben, die sie von den Zooxanthellen erhalten w\u00fcrden, damit sie schneller wachsen, gedeihen und widerstandsf\u00e4higer sind.\n\nKorallen k\u00f6nnen sich weder auf ihre Nahrung zubewegen noch die Nahrung zu sich herholen. Daher konsumieren sie gel\u00f6stes organisches Material (DOM), das frei in ihre Mundscheibe str\u00f6mt (etwa so gro\u00df wie ein Nadelkopf) oder klein genug ist, um durch ihr Weichgewebe absorbiert zu werden.\n\nAm Riff stammt das DOM aus einer Vielzahl organischer Quellen wie dem Schleim benachbarter Korallen oder Bakterienherden.\n\nUnsere Langzeitforschung ergab, dass Korallen 4 spezifische Kohlenhydrate ben\u00f6tigen, mit denen sie Aminos\u00e4uren synthetisieren.\n\nAminos\u00e4uren sind die Bausteine von Proteinen, die Chromoproteine &#8211; mit anderen Worten: Pigmente \u2013 enthalten. Das ist es, wonach wir alle suchen \u2013 Farben!\n\nFetts\u00e4uren werden als Kraftstoffquelle und Bausteine f\u00fcr Zellstrukturen verwendet.\n\nUnd zu guter Letzt: Vitamine! Vitamine sind essentiell, weil sie als Vorl\u00e4ufer in vielen biologischen Prozessen eine wichtige Rolle spielen.\n\nNachdem wir nun wissen, welche N\u00e4hrstoffkomponenten wir liefern m\u00fcssen \u2013 Lassen Sie uns \u00fcber die Maximierung der Energie reden, die Korallen aus der Nahrung erhalten!\n\nUntersuchungen haben gezeigt, dass Korallen N\u00e4hrstoffe in der elementarsten Form, \u00fcblicherweise als Bausteine bezeichnet, \u00fcber ihr gesamtes Weichgewebe aufnehmen.
